The consultation process is flawed. You’ve had to put an emergency TRO to close jesmond dene road near Grosvenor avenue but yet this is not part of the consultation process. You know very well that the very fact that you’ve had to put an emergency TRO in means that your original LTN scheme which you’re consulting about is doomed and should be scrapped. Without that emergency TRO, your LTN is a danger to the public as per your own words. Remove the bollards now! Stop endangering the lives of the public!

NCC please read these comments, show you have listened and take the bollards out asap. It’s a strength to admit when you’re wrong and the strength of feeling on this one as well as just walking through Jesmond shows you just that. Time to start again.

Please stop ignoring the emergency services concerns about the response times to Jesmond council tax payers, and maybe make public why the change, after a private phone call. Maybe it "not in the interest of the public" to find out why we don't matter! I see it with my own eyes, and video.

We have heard a lot about how this LTN will make Jesmond "safer, cleaner and greener". The reverse is true. It has made the Jesmond Rd/ Osborne Rd junction highly dangerous because it is so overloaded, now all the local traffic is forced to use it. Meanwhile in the streets bollarded part way through, some cars are now driving faster, presumably because they feel they have the run of the road. Youths in balaclavas on fast bikes and motorcycles are emboldened as they can escape through the bollards. Some people feel nervous of walking alone along empty streets. And there are major worries that emergency services vehicles are being delayed, due to the traffic jams and the bollards making access complicated. As for cleaner, the congestion and jams on the main road are causing increased pollution. This is inhaled by all those many unlucky residents who live on or near these roads, who have to walk alongside them or catch buses beside them. As for clean streets, there is no less litter or broken glass. And greener? This claim is pure greenwashing. The planting is only of bollards. It's time Newcastle city council listened to what legions of local people are telling them. This scheme is not working! To our councillors; please accept that fact. Get rid of the bollards and concrete blocks. And then consult properly on something which really will enhance Jesmond and improve the environment.
